Doug Flutie's professional career has been a storied one. After winning the Heisman Trophy in 1994 and graduating from Boston College, Flutie spent five years in the National Football League (NFL). Doug went on to play in the Canadian Football League for eight years. During this time, he won an unprecedented six CFL Most Valuable Player Awards, including four in a row (1991-1994). Flutie's most recent career move was to sign a two year contract with the Buffalo Bills in the National Football League (NFL). This year, his first in the NFL since 1989, Flutie was voted Comeback Player of the Year by several sports magazines. Flutie's return to the NFL and rise in prominence over the last year have paved the way for the founding of the Doug Flutie, Jr. Foundation for Autism.
The Doug Flutie, Jr. Foundation for Autism has been
established by pro football player Doug Flutie, Sr. and his wife, Laurie Flutie, as their life-long commitment to make a difference in the lives of autistic children and their families. They intend to accomplish three goals with the Doug Flutie, Jr. Foundation for Autism in the following order of priority:
1. To provide funding for services for financially disadvantaged families who need assistance in caring for their autistic children. 2. To fund research and education into the causes and consequences of childhood autism. 3. To serve as a clearinghouse and communications center for new and innovative programs and services developed for autistic children.
